When It’s More Than Just a Wedding.

I’ve always been hesitant when it comes to covering weddings.

It’s not that I don’t respect the craft—if anything, it’s the opposite. Weddings carry weight. There are no do-overs, no second chances. You’re responsible for capturing moments that people will look back on for the rest of their lives. That kind of pressure has always made me take a step back.

But this time was different.

This wasn’t just any client. This was my best friend… my sister.

And when it’s someone who means that much to you, saying no doesn’t come easy.

What made it even more unique was how well I know her. Not just in the way a photographer studies a subject, but in the way only someone close to you can. I know her angles, her expressions, the subtle shifts in her face when she’s nervous, overwhelmed, or truly happy. Those are things you can’t teach or replicate—and it gave me a different kind of confidence going into the day.

On top of that, it was a Catholic wedding.

As someone who practices the faith, that added another layer of meaning. I understood the structure of the ceremony, the reverence behind each part, and the significance of what was actually taking place. It wasn’t just a timeline to follow—it was something sacred unfolding in real time.

And honestly, you don’t see that as often with younger couples.

Throughout the day, I realized something: I wasn’t just there as a photographer, and I wasn’t fully there as a guest either. I was somewhere in between. There were moments I had to stay focused, ready, anticipating what came next. And there were moments where I felt everything—the emotion, the pride, the gratitude—while still holding a camera in my hands.

It’s a different kind of experience.

You don’t get to fully sit back and take it all in the way everyone else does. But in exchange, you get something else—you get to preserve it. To freeze those moments in time so they can be revisited again and again.

And maybe that’s what made this so meaningful.

I may not have experienced the day as just a guest…

but I’ll carry it with me through every frame I captured.
